Participate in a Musical Movement
Performing the Quartet for the End of Time is a challenging affair. It requires practice, rehearsals, and understanding many of Messiaen's idiosyncratic compositional styles. But it rewarding, it is uplifting, and it is probably one of the most well constructed piece of chamber music written. Okay, so that last part is an opinion, but it is definitely standard repertoire for any of the instruments in the quartet.
This is where you come into the picture. This piece is a challenge but has a strong message in response to apocalypse and political inspiration. If you had this idea already, or if this is making you think about it, or even if it seems like an experiment - join us in performing the Quartet on Dec. 21. Let us know and we can add you to our list of performances on this website, help get the word out, and help advertise your performance so that we can share this piece with more people.
Find a quartet, find a place to perform, and prepare the piece. Easier said than done, but we know you can do it.
Email Chris Culp at cmculp @ gmail.com if you would like to put a performance on in your area. If you are looking for advice or help, email and we'll see what we can do to help you out.
Trouble finding a quartet?
Try craigslist or emailing local universities in your area. If they have a music department, they can contact others who might be interested. Find other performance groups in your area - use this as a great time to get to know the musicians around you, being networking connections, and gain new friends. If all else fails, email us and we may have other musicians in your area looking to perform the piece who emailed us previously.
Trouble finding a place?
Ask churches or community halls, these places would be glad to host such a large spiritual piece for a modest donation. Because it is close to Christmas-time, many churches would see this as a great opportunity to bring members of the church together.
